Description
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for a healthy body and mind. They are found primarily in nuts, seeds, algae, oily fish and seafood. A typical Western diet is low in omega-3 fatty acids and high in omega-6 fatty acids. This has been implicated in a wide range of health conditions and diseases. Increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids can reverse many pathological processes.
Plant sources of omega-3s, such as flaxseed oil, have long been considered inferior to fish oil, but this is far from the case. Unrefined, cold-pressed, plant-based omega-3-rich oil has a much broader and healthier effect than purified fish oil because it also contains polyphenols, phytosterols, carotenoids and natural vitamin E, which are essential for optimal omega-3 fatty acid function.
